Artistic expression and perspective is a form of emotion which is uniquely human and is driven and inspired by a creative imagination. Lavana La Brey has had an active imagination from a very young age.
The artist started painting later in life because it was a form of taking these images of people, animals, and situations and bringing them to life. For La Brey the art of painting brings her a euphoria, which can only be described as a natural high.
Over the years La Brey has developed her technique, expanding and experimenting with new substances and methods. Having worked with watercolour, oils, acrylics, pastels, pencil, charcoal, and coloured pencils, she is constantly looking for new methods of expression. Even working across mediums to express her art through collages, altered images, and other modernist or realist art styles.
Lavana La Brey enjoys taking lots of pictures of people and their pets in their special moments, and going about their daily life. These images provide her more inspiration and imagery for visualization to help her further express emotions from the moments in time captured in the photographs and in her paintings.
Driven to render emotions through art, many of which can only be expressed in artistic form. La Brey has noted where we often struggle to find the words; it is because we are trying to describe something for which words on their own are not enough. She has done this not only with canvas, but paper, or a mixture of both, and when similar to words, painting cannot express the moment, La Brey turns to crafts, creating useful items, which capture the emotion. These include fashion wear, jewelry, greeting cards and other items, which can be used by people to express their own emotions through the canvass of their style.
Inspired by working with groups of other artists, Lavana La Brey is constantly looking for the next medium. The next way of rendering emotion, collaborating with others to learn and explore the limitless boundaries of new artistic techniques and trades.
